Our brief was to create a poster for Blade Runner to illustrate a metaphor within the film.
I decided I would focus on the quote said by one of the replicant (Android) characters, Roy, "We are not computers, Sebastian, we're physical."
While watching the film, I began to think that the plot is similar to the game, Cat and Mouse, were the Blade Runner is the Cat and the mouse is the Replicants. However, this is twisted as it turns out the Blade Runner is also a replicant. Combining this with the computer idea, I decided that I would use a computer mouse in the shape of eye. One eye is red to illustrate the replicant eyes having a slight red tint in certain lighting as well as demonstrating the replicants being almost half human as they also have emotions which seemed impossible as they are just robots? The red also illustrates the brutality within the film.
The repetition fading behind the mice eyes demonstrates the fast movement within the action film as well as dying slowly shown at the end when Roy passes.
The type used is Krungthep. The type gives a futuristic feel to the poster which also illustrates the film.
My inspiration included illustrations by Noma Bar which are very minimal but extremely clever as he uses negative space and colour to suggest to the viewer what is it he is being portrayed.
